How to wear a square neck bodysuit (and how it should fit)
How to wear a square neck bodysuit: what to pair it with for work, weekends and nights out, how a bodysuit should fit, and how to choose the right size.
A bodysuit is a top that cannot come untucked. That is the whole appeal. A square neckline adds a clean, straight line across the chest that looks polished with almost anything. Here is how to wear one, and how to tell if it fits.
What to wear with a square neck bodysuit
Because a bodysuit stays put, it works anywhere you would normally tuck in a top and then spend the day fixing it.
- High-waist jeans: the classic. No bunching at the waistband, and the square neck keeps it from feeling plain.
- A satin or midi skirt: a thong back bodysuit under a slip skirt keeps the line smooth for a dressier look.
- Wide or flared pants: a fitted top balances a wide leg. Our Scrunch Back Flare Pant has a high, wide waistband that sits right where a bodysuit tucks in.
- Under a layer: an open blazer, a long cardigan, or a denim or leather jacket.
Our Square Neck Long Sleeve Bodysuit is made for exactly this: a soft, stretchy knit with a double-layer front and a thong back, so it stays tucked and smooth under jeans and skirts.
How should a bodysuit fit?
The goal, as the shapewear brand Yummie puts it, is snug without being constricting. Try it on with the bra you plan to wear, then do a few squats. A size chart does not always tell the whole story, and moving in it will.
- Chest: the fabric should lie flat. If it is stretched taut under the chest or leaves gaps, it is too small. If you spill out at the chest or underarm, go up a size.
- Torso: squat and raise your arms. A torso that is too short pulls down on the shoulders and pinches at the crotch. One that is too long bunches at the waist.
- Legs: the leg openings should feel secure without digging in.
- Fabric: if a dark color looks thin or see-through when you stretch, the size is too small.
How to choose your bodysuit size
Start with the size chart, not your usual letter size, since every brand cuts a little differently. Our square neck bodysuit comes in S to XL and fits about US 2 to 12. If you usually wear above a US 12, this one will not fit comfortably, and we would rather tell you than have you fight with it.
- Between sizes: if the fabric stretches thin or pulls on the shoulders, size up.
- Long torso: check the squat test closely. In a bodysuit, torso length matters a lot.
- Full bust: watch the chest line. A neckline that cuts in is a sign to size up.
Are snap closures comfortable?
Our bodysuit closes with snaps at the crotch. Snaps make bathroom trips easier, because you open them instead of pulling the whole thing off. To keep them comfortable, make sure the bodysuit is long enough in the torso, so the snaps are not being pulled tight when you sit.
Bra or no bra under a square neckline?
Try it with your everyday bra and check the neckline in a mirror. Whether the straps show depends on the bra, so a wider-set strap may work better. If you want to go without, the double-layer front gives you a smoother start, and a pair of Disposable Nipple Covers takes care of the rest under lighter colors.
How to care for it
Hand wash cold and lay flat to dry. Laying it flat helps the knit keep its shape, so the neckline stays straight wash after wash.
A bodysuit that fits feels like nothing at all. If you keep tugging at it, the size is wrong, not you.

Questions
How should a bodysuit fit?
Snug but not tight. It should not pull across the chest, dig in at the legs or pinch at the crotch, and it should not bunch at the waist.
Should I size up in a bodysuit if I have a long torso?
Often, yes. Squat and raise your arms in it. If it pulls down on your shoulders or pinches at the crotch, the torso is too short, so try the next size.
What do you wear with a square neck bodysuit?
High-waist jeans, a midi or satin skirt, or wide or flared pants. It also layers well under an open blazer, cardigan or jacket.
Do you wear a bra with a square neck bodysuit?
You can. Try it with your usual bra and check the neckline in a mirror. If you prefer no bra, nipple covers under the double-layer front give a smooth line.
